Traduction de la première partie en anglais pour Mildife: MILDLIFE at L’ESPACE DJANGO for CONTRETEMPS 2019 (personnal translation in english from my own article in french!)

On Friday 7 june 2019, Contretemps festival invited deux Pop bands at L’Espace Django (whose september programmation is now available ) : Mildlife & Le Mauskovic Dance Band!
Mildlife, Australians, begin with psyché keys, bass riffs, then floating keys (their 70ies floydian rock side, but more reasssuring by the contant grooveof Tom's bass, then drum, and then it grooves more, rickenbacker guitar rickenbacker staying hypnotic and angelic voice of the keyboardist! Soft funk!
An air of already heard in the krautrock but revitalized in a dancing more festive way and less glaucous (i read it was "NO WAVE" or OLD not COLD, more sea WAVES immémorials eternals, than NEW WAVE) keeping the space planantes shared between the instrumentists!

Aspeeder and exotic tempo (a certain Gilberto Gil tropicalism in « Todas Menina Bahianas »
or Al Jarreau's « Roof Garden » guitar groove in « Breakin’ Away »!
« The Gloves Don’t Bite » is speeder soliar live than on the album. Why would gloves bite us in spring? But i adore this melody!
Contretemps volunteers are yet running, jumping and dancing everywhere in blue for boys or pink for girls t-shirts this year (but i suspect them to have produced more less blues than pinks to force some boys to be pink by gay militantism!), except Laura in blue , we're not by Bolsonara (his education minister wants boys in blue, and girls in pink)!
Suddenly flippant red lights like by the Floyd at Syd Barrett period in club at their beginning à l'UFO Club en 1966!
The guitarist has a vocoded voice and something of Adam and the Madams who is in the public like his acomplice Cyprien! Keys descent in vertiginous wave, then suddenly rises as a bird the surprise whistle of a flute played by guitarist! With the bass grrove, it makes « Return to Forever »
(whose name would correspond to their name: middlife between past and
future! Except the name is miLdlife!). Guitarist scats with a pedal
effects playang like Peter Frampton!
The keyboard player is a sonic magician, able to grippers and waves!
And when the guitarist takes his flute for « How
Long Does It Take ?», we don't get high far from « Just a poke » of Sweet Smoke that would'n't have smoked the flag! I told them, they don't know this band!
The langueurs of rock 60 70 with constant bass groove are more actual! I admit they make me love pop again, these australopithecuses from out of space, out of the 90ies valiumised depressives/ angry shouting young peoples that disgusted me of it! No presentation between the titles , a change of rythm or lights (white at this moment)! The guitar has an extraordinary liquid sound when played psyché with rising on Pink Floyd's on the « Dark side of the moon »!

The bass removes energy in the final, as guitar and keyboard go running through the « Strawberry fields »in a « nothing is real » liquidity!
Here is « The Magnificent Moon », my favourite Mildlife song, more solar played live than sur disque, sung by the guitarist sampled by the keyboard to prolong it! This song even had the honours of Gilles Peterson!

It's my favourite compo for slow but groovy beginning and melancholic drawling voice of the keyboard player with hypnotic bewitching sound shapes!
The guitare makes « magnificent moon » rise in the sky on the slapped bass's crests, than keyboard, and their grooviest song!
The keyboard player is just excellent in high shapes, the diffracted ones and various sound textures on OB-6 keyboard with maybe a modulator!

There s even Flower, a girl i used to draw more than 20 years ago!

The high played like the Beatles guitar makes a little Chris Réa's «Joséphine »
or more « On The Beach » on the bass, 90ies sunny funk!

The drum is behind, but gives an efficient groove or exotic pulsation!
It's the last date of their tour! The last title goes on « Shaft » bass from Isaac d'Isaac Hayes alias « Black Moses » blaxloitation but once more goes futher or elsewhere with guitarist vocoded voice as Daft Punk's « Around The World », it's the most rythmic title a few steps from Door's « Love Street »
but one more mixed with another thing, and good bass guitare duo! On
very long titles, they're good at melting atmospheres, textures and
influences!
The guitarist's instrumental flute solo of « How Long Does It Take? », well groovy but once more multi-textured and stratified by different the instruments then top grrovy bass on keyboards in liquid loops!
We're not far from Jethro Tull in the flute!
